This week Google rebranded its Google Places app to bring it more in line with Google+ Local.

In May, Google+ Pages and Google Places merged to form the new Google+ Local. However, the company left the iOS app untouched, until now. The app, now known as Google+ Local, is not radically different, but it includes some new features.

Not surprising at all, Zagat scores — which break down a local business by several categories on a 30-point scale — are included along side Google user reviews. Your customers can also rate your business directly from the app. The added convenience might convince more to do so.

Similar to other Google iOS apps, Google+ Local now features voice search. This shouldn’t be confused with Apple’s virtual assistant, Siri. While it won’t set calendar alerts or book reservations for you, it’s pretty fast and does a good job of understanding you when you’d prefer not to type.

The update is available for download today; Android already has this functionality. Google+ Local makes it easier for people to find, rate, and share your business. And now your customers can do so while on the go.
