Select the Thumbnail Image for Instagram Video Posts

To better optimize your content for engagement, you can now select your preferred thumbnail from 20 frames for an Instagram Video Post. If publishing through the Sprout Mobile App Flow, you will have to re-select the thumbnail in the Instagram native app.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Open Compose.
  3. Select your desired Instagram profile from the Profile Picker.
  4. Enter your desired message text. Attach your preferred video.
  5. [OPTIONAL} Specify First Comment text.
  6. Within the video section, use the arrows underneath the video frame to find your preferred thumbnail image.
  7. Choose your preferred delivery method (Send Now, Schedule, Queue, Save as Draft or Submit for Approval).

Note: Due to API limitations, you can only choose from the frames of the uploaded video. Uploading a custom thumbnail is not allowed.

Analyze successes with the new Instagram Performance Report

The Instagram Performance Report is now the new Home for Instagram Business profiles data. The report features a refreshed format to better drive strategic decision making, as well as new metrics such as engagement rate and profile clicks for a comprehensive overview.

  1. HOW TO:
  2. Select the Instagram Performance Report from your left nav or Reports Home.
  3. Select your desired data range using the updated Date Picker or pick from the options in the Date Picker dropdown.
  4. Use the right rail to select or deselect the profiles you would like included in your report.

Identify top stories and posts with the new Sent Message Performance Report

The Sent Message Performance Report is the new home for Sent Message data. The report enables you to easily identify the most impactful post and stories by Engagements, Impressions, and Engagement Rate. A refreshed interface that surfaces aggregated values and makes it easy to sort posts by a given metric or filter the entire set by message type (post or story).

  1. HOW TO:
  2. Select the Instagram Performance Report from your Reports Home or under Instagram Reports.
  3. Use the Date Picker in the top right corner to select your desired custom data range or use the drop down to pick from pre-selected options such as “last 7 days” or “last month”.
  4. Use the right rail to Select or Deselect the profiles you would like included in your report.
  5. Toggle included Message type by selecting or deselecting Post and Story.
  6. Click a metric in the table to sort the rest of the data by that metric.

Benchmark performance with the updated Date Picker

The updated Date Picker makes it easy to compare period-over-period data to benchmark performance so that you can effectively compare month-to-month data.

 

  1. HOW TO:
  2. Select any Report from your left nav or Reports Home.
  3. Select the Date picker in the upper right corner of you view.
  4. Click any two dates on the calendar pop up to set a custom range.
  5. Select from pre-set options such as last month or last week by clicking the dropdown under activity date range.

Tag Users in Internal Comments within the Drafts Stream

You can now tag users and create internal comments for messages within the Drafts stream for easier collaboration.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Go to Publishing. Enter Drafts.
  3. Find your desired message and select Add Internal Comment.
  4. In the Tag users to notify field, begin typing to search for users. Select your desired users from the list.
  5. When all desired users have been added to the list, then select Submit.

Create Inbox Rules Based on Twitter Verified Status and Follow Count

You can now set up inbox rules to tag, complete, or get alerted for messages coming from Twitter users with a specific follower count and/or verified status. Actions on these messages can also be used in combination with other rule criteria for Twitter profiles.

 

  1. HOW-TO:
  2. Go to your Smart Inbox and click the Settings icon on the right bar menu. Select Rule Settings.
  3. Select Create new rule.
  4. Enter a rule title and description.
  5. For verified profiles, select is from a Twitter verified profile.
  6. For specific follow count, select is from Twitter @username with a follower count. Choose greater than, less than or between. Type in your desired parameter.
  7. Choose which action(s) you’d like to take.
  8. Select Save. You’ll now see a preview of your rule. Choose Got It to complete the setup.

Search for Assets in the Asset Library

For more efficiency, you can now search for video, image or text assets in the Asset Library when creating or planning new messages.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Go to Publishing.
  3. Select Asset Library from the left navigation panel.
  4. Apply your preferred filters or typeahead in the Search bar to begin narrowing results.

Remove Users from Message Approval Workflows

You can quickly remove users from existing approval workflows for procedural or stakeholder changes when collaborating on message creation.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Go to Approval Workflows.
  4. Select the Edit icon for your desired workflow.
  5. On the appropriate step, delete the user by selecting their name.

You can quickly add users to existing approval workflows for procedural or stakeholder changes when collaborating on messages creation.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Go to Approval Workflows.
  4. Select the Edit icon for your desired workflow.
  5. On the appropriate step, add the user by typing ahead and selecting their name.

 

Update the Any/All Approver Setting within Message Approval Workflows

When collaborating on message creation, update the Any or All Approver setting on any step within an existing workflow for procedural or stakeholder changes.

  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Go to Approval Workflows.
  4. Select the Edit icon for your desired workflow.
  5. On the appropriate step, select Any or All from the dropdown to change the setting.

Log Into Sprout’s Mobile App Using Single Sign-on

Sprout Social is now offering a SAML 2.0 Single sign-on (SSO) integration for the mobile application (in addition to the web application). SSO implementation requires a one-time fee, which includes initial set-up as well as future maintenance and support. Please contact Sprout’s Support Team or your Customer Success Manager to add SSO to your account.

Delete Instagram Comments

You can now delete comments on your Instagram posts directly from the Smart Inbox.

  1. HOW-TO:
  2. To delete comments from Sprout’s web application, hover over the message and click the gear icon. Select Delete from the menu.
  3. To delete comments on Sprout’s iOS or Android apps, press the three dots icon and select Delete from Instagram.

Create Automated Rules for Brand Keyword Messages

You can now set up inbox rules to tag, complete, or get alerted for Brand Keyword messages—available on Sprout’s Advanced plans. Actions on brand keyword messages can also be used in combination with other rule criteria.

  1. HOW-TO:
  2. Go to your Smart Inbox and click the Settings icon on the right bar menu. Select Rule Settings.
  3. Select Create new rule.
  4. Enter a rule title and description. Under If an incoming message, select is from Brand Keyword. Choose which action(s) you’d like to take.
  5. Select Save. You’ll now see a preview of your rule. Choose Got It to complete the setup.

Note: You cannot apply an inbox rule to every Brand Keyword in your account.

Send Inline Replies to Instagram Comments

You can now directly reply to individual Instagram comments in your Smart Inbox using threaded comments. Instagram threaded comments are available on web, iOS and Android.

  1. HOW-TO:
  2. From your Messages tab, click the Reply icon on an Instagram comment.
  3. After typing your message and selecting Reply, your reply will be automatically grouped underneath the comment in a thread. Note: Subsequent replies will be shown underneath the original reply in the same thread.

Illuminate new insights with Advanced Filtering in Advanced Listening

Advanced Filtering enables you to quickly (surprise!) filter Sprout’s Advanced Listening dashboard around keywords, themes, sentiment, and demographics including age, gender, location and device. This functionality has a variety of applications from content research, to identifying positive or negative sentiment drivers, to understanding demographic preferences.

  1. HOW TO:

Once in your Advanced Listening dashboard, the filters can be triggered in one of two ways:

1. Click into any of the following sections resulting in a filter being applied to the entire insights view around the category/term you select:

  • Performance Tab: Network Overview
  • Conversation Tab: Word Cloud, Related Keywords & Hashtags, Conversation Overview
  • Demographics Tab:Age and Gender Breakdown, Device Demographics, Profile Overvie, Locations, Locations Overview
  • Themes Tab: Themes Overview.

2. You can use the new “Advanced Filters” drop down in the right rail to quickly resort your dashboard around filters including:

  • Sentiment: Filter by messages that were classified as positive, negative or unrated.
  • Gender: Filter by author included gender of male or female.
  • Age Range: Filter by messages by author age range. The options are 0-17, 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, or 55+.
  • Technology: Filter by messages origin.
  • Mobile OS: Filter by messages posted on iOS or Android.

To remove filters, simply uncheck the appropriate box or click “clear all” under “included filters” in the Message Search Filters area.

Manage Content from the Asset Library on Sprout’s Mobile Apps

Available to Advanced plans, you can now view and utilize Asset Library content directly from Sprout’s mobile apps for faster publishing and community management.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Asset Library.
  4. Search or filter to find your desired asset. Select your desired asset to delete, download to your device or send to Compose for message creation.

Upload Content to the Asset Library from Sprout’s Mobile Apps

Available to Advanced plans, you can now use or upload assets on Sprout’s mobile apps for faster publishing workflows from anywhere.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Tap Asset Library.
  4. Tap the Floating Action Button (FAB) to create or upload new assets.

Attach Single or Multiple Assets to Messages on Sprout’s Mobile Apps

Available to Advanced plans, you can now attach assets individually or in bulk when composing new messages on Sprout’s mobile apps.

  2. Go to Compose.
  3. Tap your desired profiles from the Profile Picker.
  4. Enter message text and tap Asset Library icon.
  5. Select your desired assets, tap Attach.

Create Automated Rules for VIP Lists

You can now set up rules to tag, complete, or get alerted every time you receive a message from a member of your Twitter VIP List (available on Advanced and Enterprise plans).

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Go to your Smart Inbox and click the Settings icon on the right bar menu. Select Inbox Settings.
  3. Select Create new rule.
  4. Enter a rule title and description. Under If an incoming message, select is from a member of my VIP list. Choose which action(s) you’d like to take.
  5. For push notifications, you’ll also need to enable the alert from your mobile app. Go to Settings -> Notification Preferences -> Inbox Notifications. Enable your rule under Rule Alerts.
  6. Select Save. You’ll now see a preview of your rule. Choose Got It to complete the setup.

Customize tables in Advanced Listening

You can now add, remove, and rearrange table columns in Advanced Listening to focus on the data that matters most. Each table can be exported to CSV with the changes reflected. The following tables can be edited:

  • Network Table
  • Conversation Table
  • Themes Table
  • Profile Table
  • Locations Table
  • Messages Table
  1. HOW TO:
  2. Navigate to any of the above tables.
  3. Click the three dots located at the top right corner of the desired table.
  4. Add a metric by clicking the blue “+” icon next to the value and click the “x” to remove an added metric.
  5. Click and hold on a selected metric to rearrange the order.

Transfer Account Ownership in Sprout

Account Owners in Sprout can now assign another user as an Account Owner. This transfers full permissions to the user including profiles, users and billing information.

  1. HOW-TO:
  2. Go to Settings -> Users & Social Profiles.
  3. Select a user that you’d like to make the Account Owner. Under their name, click Make Account Owner.
  4. From the confirmation modal, select Change Account Owner.

Submit Messages to Approval Workflows from Compose

You can now submit messages to various Approval Workflows consisting of multiple steps and approvers for shorter feedback loops and a more streamlined approval process.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Go to Compose.
  3. Select your desired profiles from the Profile Picker.
  4. Enter your desired message text. Attach your preferred image (optional).
  5. Select rubber stamp icon to require approval.
  6. Select Submit for Approval.

Plan or Publish Videos Directly to Instagram Profiles from Compose

You can now schedule, queue, draft or publish a single video directly to Instagram Business Profiles from within Sprout’s Compose window for a more streamlined workflow. It is also available on Sprout’s Mobile App for iOS and Android.

Create Approval Workflows with Multiple Approvers

For additional control and oversight on message creation, you can now build various Approval Workflows consisting of multiple users and “all or any” conditions. You can also save, duplicate and delete approval workflows from within Workflow Approval Settings.

  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Workflow Approvals from the Global Features menu.
  4. Select Create New Workflow.

Repost an Instagram Post from Feeds on Sprout’s iOS App

You can now repost or publish existing Instagram Posts featuring your monitored hashtags directly from the Feeds tab on Sprout’s iOS app for a more streamlined workflow when highlighting user-generated content.

  1. HOW-TO
  2. Tap Filter Menu.
  3. Tap Instagram Sources and your preferred Instagram Hashtags. Tap Done.
  4. Tap your desired post. Tap Repost to open Compose for publishing.

View a Live Message Preview in Full-Screen from Compose

When creating messages in the Compose window, you can now also view a full-screen live preview to better visualize your messages before publishing.

  2. Go to Compose.
  3. Select Full-Screen from the right corner of the Compose window.
  4. Select your desired profiles from the Profile Picker.
  5. Enter your desired message text. Attach your preferred image (optional).
