In an effort to become a bigger part of the news discovery experience, Bing has announced a new Facebook app.

Bing is no stranger to social, as the search engine launched a new three-column design with heavy integration from social networks like Facebook, Foursquare and Quora.

My Bing News brings the top stories of the day to Facebook. The app will automatically pull the most important stories based on interests and compile them into a personal My News homepage. As Bing pointed out, individuals are in control over what’s shared and what isn’t. For example, people can share individual articles, comments on articles, or entire topics.

This is a smart move for Bing as Facebook has been generous with referral traffic, especially for news organizations. We reported earlier this year that The Guardian saw record traffic from its Open Graph app.

Although Bing isn’t strictly a news publication, it’s certainly in good company. Open Graph apps have seen tremendous growth since their launch in February. If you’re looking for a new way to boost your presence on the social network, it might be time to look into creating an app.
