Twitter brand pages were released today as the new broke about the company’s website and apps, which have been completely redesigned. The microblogging site has become a popular marketing platform for small businesses and brands.
To strengthen its relationship with advertisers, Twitter now offers the ability to customize headers and make logos more prominent. Currently customization takes place in the background and is usually partially covered by the timeline.
You can also choose to keep a specific tweet at the top of your timeline, which can auto-expand to reveal an embedded photo or video from Flickr, YouTube, and others, without requiring your visitors to take action.
Twitter has also made it easier for brands to track social media mentions by separating @ replies from mentions. The new filtering feature will certainly help large brands that see a lot of activity keep track of their messaging.
Twitter’s redesign aims make using the platform easier, especially for those that are new to social media. For instance, the company has replaced “@” and “#” with “connect” and “discover.” Additionally photos and videos will now be displayed within the tweets that contain them, instead of opening a pop-up or separate page.
The new website interface will roll out to users over the next few weeks. It’s already available for its iPhone and Android apps. Brand pages are launching with a select group of companies, including American Express, Dell, JetBlue, and more. It’s still unclear when this feature will be rolled out for other brands.
