There are eleven federal holidays in the United States, but federal holidays make up a tiny portion of all the holidays proposed and unofficially recognized. One of the most recent holidays to come into the fold is World Kindness Day.

What is World Kindness Day?

Created at a convention in 1997, and first celebrated the following year, World Kindness Day has caught on in several different countries from North America to Southeast Asia.

The problem is that World Kindness Day is a niche holiday, so a lot of people don’t know how to celebrate it when it does come around. That’s why we’ll be discussing some possible ideas in this article.

How to celebrate World Kindness Day?

1. Perform Random Acts of Kindness

It costs nothing to smile and say something nice, or to help another person with a task. It also benefits you quite a bit. Those who practice kindness on a reasonably regular basis tend to be happier and less stressed.

Being a kind person can also help you feel better about yourself, and will likely make others feel better about you too. Humans are social creatures, so you can never have too many friends.

Since World Mental Health Day occurs the previous month (October 10th), participating in World Kindness Day is a great way to keep your own spirits up and lift the spirits of others. After all, what is World Kindness Day about if not helping everyone?

2. Volunteer

They say that charity starts at home, but it doesn’t have to stay there. You can pay it forward in seemingly limitless ways and places. You could try serving food at a soup kitchen. or volunteering at an animal shelter.

Technically, you don’t even have to go to a volunteer organization to do this. Do you know of anyone who might need some help with lawn maintenance or other such tasks? Lend them a hand.

3. Donate

If there’s no volunteer work you can do, you can always donate. You don’t even have to donate money. If you have any unread books, clothes that no longer fit, or other things that you aren’t using, chances are somebody else could use them.

Secondhhand shops are happy to take clothes and other goods. Your used books can go to libraries, where other people can enjoy them for years to come.

4. Spread Kindness on Social Media

Unfortunately, when we think of kindness, social media isn’t usually something that comes to mind. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t be used for kindness. Try making a post telling people that it is World Kindness Day.

For a more personal touch, contact a few of your friends and send them a comforting and heartfelt message. While this is all great news, you might be asking when is World Kindness Day? It falls on November 13th this year, but you can keep the spirit alive all year.

Celebrate World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day is an under-recognized holiday, especially since kindness is something we all could use a little more of.
