With only hours to go before revealing its big News Feed update, Facebook has started rolling out a new design for Timeline About pages. The revamped page gives members more customizable options, features larger visuals, and more integration of Open Graph apps.
For the time being, the prompt appears to be limited to only members with the new Timeline design — meaning those in the U.K. and New Zealand. This also means that only Facebook Profiles are currently affected.
However, despite being limited to profiles, the update is still interesting from a Page’s perspective. Individuals who receive the prompt to update their About pages can now choose which apps and content types appear on it as well as the order in which they appear.
Additionally, the Like section, another important area for brands, now features much larger images and tabbed navigation to different categories of interests and favorites. As individuals visit friends profiles, they’ll have an even clearer sense of what brands and products they’re a fan of.
Sections for Open Graph apps summarize an individual’s activity, and sections for movies, books, and music include the new “Want to Watch/Read/Listen” lists. The basic About section and Friends page function the same way as before, but feature a slightly different design.
Although it’s not directly beneficial to your business, this update could encourage members to add more “intent-based” information to Facebook, something that could be useful when targeting Facebook Ads.
