Twitter has just announced updates to its official mobile apps for iOS and Android. These apps have received some much-needed new features, including a redesigned Discover tab and better support for search and push notifications.
Previously, you only received a push notification when someone mentioned you or sent you a direct message. Now you’ll receive alerts whenever someone retweets you, favorites one of your tweets, and when someone new follows you. These notifications can be managed so you receive as many or as few as you’d like.
A new stream has been added to the Discover tab, which makes it much more useful. Now you’ll be able to view tweets that have been favorited or retweeted by the people you follow, as well as which accounts those people follow or add to lists.
By including information that’s more relevant to you, Twitter is making it easier for you to keep a pulse on your community — which is especially important for small businesses and brands.
Twitter has also improved the search process by adding autocomplete suggestions for people you follow whenever you begin typing a username or first or last name.
These are important updates for community and social media managers that monitor Twitter accounts on the go. The notification update is especially handy as you won’t have to rely on email or worry about missing important updates.
