A Facebook note was a long-form post format that let people and Pages publish formatted text, images and links beyond a standard status update. Facebook discontinued Notes in October 2020.

Notes gave writers more room and more formatting control than a regular post. Authors could add a title, a cover photo, inline images, headings, bold and italic text, bulleted lists and block quotes. They could also tag friends, Pages or places and choose who saw each note, from the public to a custom list of people.

Notes also had no tight character limit. That made them a fit for essays, event recaps, announcements and other posts that needed more than a few lines. Readers could like, comment on and share notes like any other post.

Brands used Facebook Notes to summarize blog posts, share brand updates and publish case studies. Some also used them to publish event details, product announcements and behind-the-scenes stories without sending followers to another site.

What happened to Facebook Notes

Facebook ended note creation and editing after October 31, 2020. Notes that went live before that date stayed visible on profile timelines and Pages. Facebook deleted all unpublished drafts.

To find your past notes, open Settings & privacy and go to your Activity Log.

Today, brands share long-form stories as standard Facebook posts or link to their own blog. See how in these Facebook marketing examples and our guide to using Facebook for business.
