Foursquare Brings Explore Features to Mobile
In an effort to provide consumers with recommendations while on the go, Foursquare has launched an updated version of its Explore feature for its iPhone and Android apps.
The new Explore section enables an individual to search for a venue by category, name, or even a more specific keyword, such as the type of food he or she is looking for. Additionally, he or she can tap “Specials” to see only the venues offering check-in or mayor discounts.
The new filter button – which can be found at the top right on iOS or bottom right on Android – can also be used to narrow search results by options like “New to me,” places they’ve already been, “Both,” or places that friends have tried.
Explore can also be used to find recommended locations in areas outside of your customer’s current location. For example, he or she can either type in a location or drag the map around to find a new neighborhood.
Last month, Foursquare announced a partnership with SinglePlatform, which brought the menus of 250,000 U.S. restaurants to its service. These menus can now be accessed through the company’s mobile apps. Previously they were only available online.
Local businesses will certainly benefit from additional filtering options. Not only does it help to create more awareness, but consumers’ recommendations are based off personal experiences or those of their friends. Personal recommendations are a powerful influencer.
