To build upon the success of its mobile app install ads, Facebook today announced that the popular ad unit is coming to desktop — giving advertisers yet another reason to love News Feed.
According to Facebook, mobile app install ads have driven more than 145 million installs from Apple’s App Store and Google Play this year alone. The ad unit has certainly won over mobile advertisers, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to see it offered on desktop.
Appearing in both News Feed and the right-hand column of the homepage, the new ad format will help advertisers to effectively drive and measure installs for desktop apps on the social network through strong calls to action.
For example, desktop install ads might read “Play Now” or “Use Now,” above a large image that will be displayed to help show off your app to members. Each person who clicks on the ad will be taken directly to your app on Facebook to accept its permissions.
You can access desktop app ads through Ads Create Tool, Power Editor, or by working with one of the company’s Preferred Marketing Developers. In the ads interfaces, simply select the objective you want to achieve (App installs) and add your creative. Once you’ve set your targeting preferences you can place your bid.
Facebook noted that desktop app ads have launched to 10 percent of advertisers and will roll out to the rest in the next several days. For more information on using these ads to create desktop campaigns, check out Facebook’s step-by-step tutorial.
