Facebook users can now view recommendations from non-friends on Places Pages. Previously only the ability to view endorsements from friends was available. The update can possibly increase chances of your business Page gathering more Likes.
Earlier this year Facebook added the “Recommend This Place” feature to Places Pages to encourage visitors to share thoughts about particular locations. These recommendations are also posted to the author’s wall and news feeds of his or her friends, giving businesses with Facebook Pages more exposure.
This feature allows your visitors to see a “Recommendations from friends” prompt along the right sidebar if any friends have shared an experience. As of today, recommendations from non-friends are also visible.
Additionally the social network is testing a new prompt for visitors to add recommendations to a Page. The prompt now pops up in the center of the screen after the Like button has been clicked.
While recommendations from friends tend to matter more when it comes to decision-making, Facebook appears to believe that both methods are of value. The approval of another person may influence your visitors’ decision to click your Page’s Like button. We believe this is an interesting update since recommendations from non-friends are one of the main components competitors like Foursquare have been offering its user base.
