This week, Twitter is expanding its Brands Pages offering to businesses in Japan, making it the first market in Asia, and third country to receive access.

Last December, in an effort to strengthen its relationship with advertisers, Twitter launched Brand Pages. Soon after, the company began rolling out the newly designed pages to businesses in the UK.

Brand Pages enable you to develop marketing pages for your brand — similar to Facebook Pages — on Twitter. The pages feature rich content, customizable banner advertisements, and the ability to feature a tweet on the top of the page.

Initial launch partners include Japan’s largest telecom company NTT Docomo, national retailer Lawson, and Warner Entertainment Japan.

The microblogging service has seen impressive growth in Japan, even managing to break into the mainstream — which is difficult considering the country tends to prefer domestic services. Twitter’s appeal was validated last year when Mixi — Japan’s leading social network — announced an advertising partnership with Twitter.

The expansion is great if you have an international presence. Twitter Brand Pages can help show off a more human side of your company while helping you stand out among the rest of its user base. However, keep in mind that to be eligible, you must have already spent at least $25,000 on Twitter ads.
