Following its launch in Italy last month, location review site Yelp is expanding its European presence to Switzerland.

As of yesterday locals are able to create accounts on to share opinions about local businesses and services. While available throughout the country, Yelp will focus its initial efforts in Zurich, where its full-time community manager will reside.

“Situated in the heart of Europe, Switzerland is a world class nation characterized by a desire for the finer things in life,” said Miriam Warren, Vice President of European Marketing at Yelp. “Our hope is that Yelp can deliver a platform for this discerning population to share their opinions on everything from fashion boutiques and chocolate purveyors to everyday services like dentists and cleaners.”

This addition puts Yelp in nine European countries – in addition to the U.S. and Canada – including Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, and United Kingdom.

This move comes at a great time as Google Places aggressively pushes its U.S. presence. Yelp has successfully expanded through its city-by-city approach thus far, so it only makes sense to continue the trend internationally.

If you have any international locations or sister companies, now would be a good time to start claiming your Yelp Business Pages and to ramp up your social media efforts.
