Today Yelp announced that it has partnered with BMW, which will be enhancing BMW Online – its in-car infotainment system – with Yelp.

Recently BMW made an update to its in-car system that allows the company to add new features, including applications, and Yelp is one of the first to be integrated.

Through this new feature, drivers will be able to search for businesses, such as local restaurants or boutiques, while on the go. Results are sorted by distance and star ratings and also include the number of reviews the venue has received. Selecting a location will provide the driver with more details, including rating, address, distance, and contact information. Additionally the three most recent reviews can be read back to the driver.

This feature is only available for select BMW models in the U.S.  Because it’s a very niche target audience, we don’t expect businesses to see a large difference in store traffic. However, the technology provides possibilities for other auto brands and car rental companies to partner with the local review service. For now, consumers will have to rely on services like OnStar and Apple’s Siri.
