Enable the Slack integration for your Sprout account

Sprout’s integration with Slack enables users to receive Sprout notifications for approvals and task activities in their Slack accounts. Account owners must first enable the Slack integration for their Sprout account, which will allow all account users to connect their notifications to Slack.

  1. HOW-TO (Account Owners):
  2. Navigate to the Settings page.
  3. Scroll down the left-side menu bar to Global Features, and click on Notifications.
  4. Navigate to the My Team Configuration tab. 
  5. Switch the toggle on to enable the Slack integration for your account. Now all account users will be able to set up their own custom notifications that will connect to Slack.

Activate webhooks for your Sprout account

Once your Account Owner has enabled the Slack integration for your account, all users will be able to activate webhooks to connect Sprout notifications to your Slack accounts. To begin this process, please open Slack’s Help Center article and follow the steps below:

  1. HOW-TO:
  2. Create a Slack app with a descriptive name like Sprout Social Notifications. Choose Sprout Social as the workspace.
  3. Navigate to Add Features and Functionality.
  4. Click Incoming Webhooks.
  5. Click the toggle to On to activate incoming webhooks.
  6. Click Add New Webhook to Workspace. Note that you can create one or multiple webhooks, depending on how many Slack channels you want to use to receive notifications.
  7. Click Copy to copy a specific webhook URL for your chosen Slack channel.

Connect Sprout notifications to your Slack account

  1. HOW-TO:
  2. Navigate to the Settings page. 
  3. Scroll down the left-side menu bar to Global Features, and click on Notifications.
  4. Navigate to the Slack column, and check the box for the notifications you’d like to receive in Slack. You can select any type of Approval or Task notification (Issue notifications are not available at this time).
  5. Once the popup modal opens, choose the Slack channel name for where your notifications will display (ex. “Sprout Approval Notifications”), and enter the Webhook URL you copied from the previous workflow into the form field.
  6. Click Allow.
  7. Repeat Steps 4-6 for all notifications you’d like to receive in Slack. 
  8. Click the Edit pencil at any time to edit your webhook notification setup .
