Whether you’re a large corporation or a small business, understanding your customers is important. However, market research can be both time-consuming and expensive.

Today Google has introduced a new product that benefits companies as well as online publishers. Google Consumer Surveys is an easy solution for companies to create online customized surveys about anything, from new product ideas to demographics.

It’s a pretty straightforward process: You can write your own survey questions, or customize an existing template, and choose how many responses you’d like. People browsing the web will complete questions — which are featured across sites in Google’s publisher network — in order to access premium content, such as news articles and videos.

Publishers — including online news sites, video creators, and app developers — earn money as site visitors provide answers to your questions.

Google will automatically aggregate and analyze the responses to your questions and send the data back to you through a real-time online interface. You’ll also receive demographic and geographic information for each response. The service costs $0.10 per response. However, if you’d like a more targeted demographic it will cost $0.50 per response.

This certainly cuts down the work involved in launching online customer surveys. It’s too early to tell how consumers will react to having to answer questions, but this could be an improvement to ads.
