Twitter isn’t the only social network helping small businesses this holiday season. Foursquare has added a new feature that will help consumers find new venues.
Called “Recently Open,” this Explore option allows individuals to see new locations around them. It also challenges new businesses to make Foursquare more of a priority as it can help provide foot traffic — something most new businesses struggle to get early on.
This feature couldn’t have come at a better time considering Foursquare recently opened up its Explore feature to all visitors. Combined with the company’s new rating system, Foursquare is really becoming a popular destination for discovery and recommendations — it’s not just about check-ins anymore.
With Small Business Saturday just around the corner, new businesses could benefit a lot from this feature. To make sure you don’t miss out, be sure to create a Foursquare account and encourage holiday shoppers to check in. Even existing businesses can benefit from being active on Foursquare. If you haven’t claimed your venue yet, we can’t think of a better time to get started.
Currently, “Recently Open” is available for iOS only. While we imagine an Android update isn’t too far off, Foursquare didn’t comment on when it will be available.
