Foursquare has rolled out an update for BlackBerry just in time for holiday shopping and traveling.

The location-based social networking service has provided regular updates for its iPhone and Android apps. Today, the check-in service unveiled some major updates for BlackBerry owners.

Foursquare introduced Events which enable an individual to tell friends which movie, concert, or sporting event he or she is at. Through a partnership with, Songkick, and ESPN, that individual can also look up details – like movie times and summaries – before the event.

The BlackBerry app has also received a new check-in detail screen that will display more details about points or badges earned, photos, and comments. Design changes have also been made to the friend management screen and help menu.

One of BlackBerry’s most popular features is BBM – an instant messaging app for BlackBerry users. Foursquare has tapped into this and a consumer is now able to share tips on his or her profile. This means that information about your restaurant or store can be shared with others even if people aren’t using the Foursquare app at the moment.

Additional updates include an improved GPS technology, which should clear up any location issues as well as battery life. The updated version of the app is available for download today.

With so many consumers out and about in search of holiday deals, it’s worth thinking about providing a special for those that check-in to your business this holiday season.
