While this is certainly a noteworthy statistic, the social media advertising and analytics platform provider Optimal dug a bit deeper and found that more members are interacting with Facebook on Android devices than iOS.
The data shows that of 944.2 million members (the total addressable with the Facebook Ads API)189.8 million access Facebook through Android’s native app or the mobile web. That’s about 20.1 percent, compared to 178.3 million, or 18.8 percent, using iOS.
You might be wondering why this matters, and it’s for one very simple reason: advertising. Not too long ago Facebook introduced mobile-only ads, which have since been reported to generate 63 percent more Likes than desktop ads. More mobile users means more eyes on your ads.
However, this is especially beneficial if you’re targeting specific mobile users when creating ads. For example, you can choose to target everyone using iOS or just those using an iPhone 4. This holds true for Android as well, which breaks down by supported device (i.e. HTC, LG, Samsung, and so on).
