Interacting with fans on Facebook from your mobile device just got easier. Today, the social network released a significantly faster iOS app, rebuilt from the ground up.

Although the app looks the same, the now-native app addresses speed in several areas: launching the app, scrolling through the News Feed, and opening photos inside the News Feed.

Not only do stories appear in the News Feed faster, but a banner will let you know when new stories come in. Just tap once and you’ll immediately see the new updates.

In addition to speed improvements, Facebook also added some new animations and gestures. These minor tweaks are aimed at improving one-handed browsing. For example, when you’re viewing a photo, you can swipe down on it to return to the previous screen.

This is the company’s first update since April, although it has released Facebook Camera and Pages Manager since then. According to Facebook, its mobile products are doing very well with 543 million monthly active users in June alone.

Coincidentally, Facebook released an update for its Android app today as well. The new version includes Event creation, multi-photo upload, and new features for messages. The app can be downloaded on Google Play.

The updated iOS app is now available for download in Apple’s App Store.
