Yelp just released an update for its iPhone app, and while the short update news might lead someone to assume that there’s not much to it, it’s a massive update for small and local business owners. Previously, the Yelp app only offered features and tools for customers, but now many of the features afforded to managers of Yelp business pages are available on the go.
The new iPhone app (version 5.5) actually allows people to apply to add new business pages to Yelp with “just a few taps” on the mobile device. Those applications still have to go through a human-reviewed approval process just like applications submitted through the website, though.
On top of that, you can now update information like hours of operation, address, categories, and more on your iPhone. Lastly, you can take and upload business photos using your phone’s camera — and share them on Twitter or Facebook. The idea is that you can now perform most of the basic Yelp business page managment tasks on your phone.
The app is available for free on the Apple App Store today. If you give it a spin, let us know what you think.
