Moving beyond feeds and streams, Twitter announced that it will soon begin emailing you a weekly digest of Tweets you might have missed.

The email digest, which will start appearing in inboxes over the next few weeks, will look similar to Twitter’s mobile Discover tab. Each story will feature a summary below it to help you decide which ones matter most.

Similar to its mobile experience, you can continue reading a story by clicking on its headline, share your thoughts by tweeting directly from the email, or view related Tweets from people you follow.

The digest will also feature the “most engaging” Tweets viewed by the people you follow, even if you don’t follow those that created them. Additionally, you’ll be able to retweet, favorite, reply, or view the threaded conversation by clicking “View details.”

We’re not so sure how valuable this digest will be. It’s possible that it will help to extend the relevance of certain Tweets that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. It’s also fair to assume that many individuals will turn off email notifications.
