Although Twitter has become closely integrated with the iOS platform, it hasn’t done much in terms of servicing its BlackBerry app. However, that’s all changed as the company has released an update that ties Twitter closely to BlackBerry Messenger.
BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is an instant messaging program — similar to Apple’s iMessage — that enables individuals with BlackBerry devices to communicate with each other.
As of today, you can connect your Twitter and BlackBerry Messenger accounts and share your latest tweet as a BBM Personal Message. You can also access your contacts’ Twitter accounts directly from their BBM profiles.
Additionally, the update lets you share links to web pages directly from your mobile browser and automatically shortens links sent from your phone — freeing up more characters for your message. You can also upload photos from your device’s camera to pic.twitter.com.
This is a big improvement for BlackBerry users, who until now, haven’t seen a Twitter update since December when it introduced support for multiple accounts. When it comes to mobile apps, a lot of focus is placed on Android and iOS — which received updates from Twitter in February. The updated app can be downloaded from BlackBerry’s App World.
