Today Facebook is making it easier for brands to hold contests and promotions on the social network. In a blog post, the company announced that third-party services are no longer required for these types of marketing efforts.
Moving forward, promotions can be administered on Page Timelines and in apps. This means that you can now collect entries by having members post on the Page or comment/Like a Page post, by having members message the Page, or by utilizing Likes as a voting mechanism.
While Facebook has eased up on the promotion requirement, the company has prohibited you from tagging or encouraging people to tag themselves in content that they’re not actually depicted in. For example, it’s okay to ask people to submit names of a new product in exchange for a chance to win a prize.
However, it’s not okay to ask people to tag themselves in pictures of a new product in exchange for a chance to win a prize. Additionally, as before, promotions can’t be carried out on personal Timelines. You can read the specifics in the updated Promotions section of Facebook’s Page Terms, or download Facebook’s Promotion Guidelines.
This capability will make it even easier for businesses to build awareness for a product or promote the opening of a new location without relying on a third-party to build an app. Now you can do this right on your Page and increase the awareness of the post with Promoted Posts.
