It’s Facebook Friday — each week we’ll offer one tip for leveraging Facebook to increase customer awareness of and engagement with your brand or business. This week, we’ll show you a shot-in-the-dark way to get into the Facebook Offers local business program early.

Earlier today, Facebook announced a new kind of update for local businesses: Offers. They’re free to create, though their reach is limited. You come up with a special offer as an incentive for customers to connect with you, and any that has Liked your business will see a link in his or her feed that reads, “Get Offer.”

It’s a great way to thank customers for subscribing to your updates on Facebook and giving you exposure to new potential customers — their friends.

Not all businesses have access to this feature right out of the game, but Facebook will roll it out to everyone in the coming weeks. If you want to be ahead of the curve, though, you do have a hail Mary option.

If you look up “Facebook Offers” in the Facebook Help Center for Pages, you’ll find a FAQ question titled, “Why can’t I create an offer for my Facebook Page?” Here’s the answer Facebook provided:

Offers are available in beta to a limited number of local business Pages. We plan to launch offers more broadly soon.

If you’d like to post offers but your Page doesn’t have the option to yet, let the Pages team know.

So if you don’t have access to Offers but you want it, Facebook might grant your request if you ask for it. Just visit its well-hidden “Offers Information Request” form and fill out your request, then hit “Send.” This is no sure-fire guarantee, but it’s worth a try if you want to stay ahead of the pack.
