Your website and blog might be sporting a new Facebook Like button today. The social network confirmed that it’s testing a new blue Like button that seems to affect the website plugin.
The company issued a standard boilerplate statement to The Next Web when asked about the change. Although Facebook wouldn’t go into any details, the updated button can be seen in the screenshots below, as well as within the iTunes footer.
Undoubtedly a minor change, it’s worth noting that the blue button includes Facebook’s logo which could help differentiate it from copycats. Additionally, compared to the faded blue that most Like buttons currently sport, the richer color helps the button stand out. This could result in more engagement with your content.
This isn’t the first time Facebook has experimented with one of its buttons. Earlier this month, the social network began testing two new buttons on Pages that enable members to follow or review it with a single click. A similar test aimed to help brands get more fans by recommending pages based on Likes.
The blue button doesn’t appear to be showing up for everyone, so it’s very possible that this is a limited test that won’t be made permanent. But while small in size, the impact could be great for companies that have the Like button installed on their websites and blogs.
