This morning Facebook announced that it has passed the 1 billion milestone. That is, 1 billion active users, not just sign-ups. If you were looking for a reason to create brand presence on the social network, this is it.
Although announced today, the milestone was actually reached on September 14th. The company also shared some other statistics that are equally impressive. For example, since launch Facebook has seen 1.13 trillion Likes, 219 billion photos uploaded, and 17 billion location-targeted posts (including check-ins).
Perhaps the most noteworthy statistic is the 600 million monthly active mobile users. Earlier this year, mobile accounted for a little over 50 percent of the company’s total members. That number as steadily increased in such a short period, and is now in the sixties — a more exact number is expected later this month.
This is particularly good news for advertisers who are interested in mobile ads, which were launched over the summer. There are mixed reports on the effectiveness of mobile ads; some studies have shown that mobile outperforms desktop ads, while others weren’t very impressed by them.
Facebook’s mobile advertising future is still unknown, but the audience is growing and doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon.
