Tumblr Is Rolling Out a More Streamlined Dashboard

The social blogging platform Tumblr has made adding content a much easier process, one that doesn’t require you to leave the Dashboard. This is similar to Twitter.com, which makes it easy to create a tweet regardless of the page you’re on.

Instead of sending you to a separate page, Tumblr is rolling out new inline forms for posting text, photos, videos, quotes, and so on. A new animation dims your Dashboard and a post submission form will appear.

Non-essential items are placed within drop-down menus. For example, next to the “Create post” button, a drop-down will let you choose between publishing immediately, previewing, adding to queue, and saving as draft.

If you manage multiple blogs, you can easily switch between them in the new design. To do so, just find your name in the top left, click, and choose the account from the drop-down menu that appears.

While it’s not a major change, it looks like it could be a useful one — perhaps the first of many. According to a Tumblr spokesperson, “it’s a step toward making the Dashboard a smaller and more streamlined experience.” The new look is rolling out today.
