Pinterest Tests a New Design Focused on Better Discovery
It looks like a new Facebook Timeline isn’t the only thing being tested these days. Pinterest announced that it’s testing a new design, featuring bigger images and better navigation.
Pinterest, known for its grid-style layout, is taking your feedback into account as it tests changes among a small group of beta testers. If all goes well, the new design could be available for everyone within a few weeks.
Currently there are a few navigation options along the top of the site. In the new design, Pinterest is focusing on a cleaner look by condensing the navigation menu into a single button. Combining navigation with category options could lead to more exploration.
Additionally, Pinterest is putting more emphasis on individual pins. In the redesign, not only is the pinned image larger, but it’s now surrounded by helpful content. For example, visitors will now see pins from the same board, other boards this pin was pinned to, and many more related pins.
Unlike Facebook, these changes are pretty subtle. Consumers should be happy that it’s now easier to find things they’re interested in, and brands will love the subtle encouragement for visitors to browse through more of your pins and boards.
