Facebook Gives Fans News Ways to Keep Up With Pages
It looks like Facebook was able to squeeze in one more test before the weekend. Some members of the social network are seeing a separate Pages Feed which houses all of the updates from Liked Pages in a single stream.
With 1 billion active members on Facebook, Pages are now having to compete with friends over what appears in fans’ News Feeds. Facebook tries to provide the best mix of content for its members, but some find that important updates are still slipping through the cracks.
The social network has provided participants with direct access to the Pages Feed. While this feed will provide unfiltered updates from Pages, it doesn’t seem that anything will be eliminated from the main News Feed — fans will still be able to see top posts and sponsored content.
This week, the company also began rolling out a new notifications feature for Pages and public figures. Now fans can opt in to receive notifications whenever a new post is published, ensuring they never miss an update. This is similar to the Close Friends feature, which alerts members each time a new update or photo is shared by someone on the list.
Fans can opt in to these notifications by hovering over your Page’s Like button and clicking the “Get Notifications” option from the drop-down menu that appears. At this time, this feature doesn’t appear to have made it to every Page. Facebook didn’t specify on how long the rollout will take.
Considering most Pages, on average, reach only about 16 percent of their fans, it’s necessary that Facebook figure out ways to increase that number. Of course, you can also take matters into your own hands with Facebook Ads and the Promote button. But for those of you on a slightly tighter budget, you might want to wait and see if the new feed and notifications do anything to bump up engagement.
