Showcase Products Through Facebook’s New Collections Feature
The new feature, called Collections, enables retailers to add “Want” or “Collect” buttons to posts, which consumers can then collect in a Pinterest-style folder.
According to Facebook, only your fans will be able to see the images unless someone interacts with it. You won’t be able to increase your reach all that much as you won’t be able to turn this into a Sponsored Story — at least not yet.
However, you will be able to add a link from the photo directly to an e-commerce site, encouraging fans to head right over and make a purchase. This is big news if you upload product photos to your Facebook albums, and could result in more engagement with your product (and hopefully sales) instead of just views.
At this time, Facebook isn’t charging a referral fee for this service; however, we don’t expect that this will remain a completely free option — just look at Facebook Offers.
Currently Collections is being tested with seven companies — Victoria’s Secret, Pottery Barn, Michael Kors, Wayfair, Neiman Marcus, Fab.com, and Smith Optics — and isn’t open to other brands at the moment. However, Facebook will rollout the functionality this afternoon so members can begin collecting.
