Twitter Invites Non-Business Members to Advertising Program
Twitter’s advertising space is about to get a lot more crowded. The company is now encouraging non-business users to get in on the ad action.
Soon individuals not representing businesses or brands will be able to take advantage of Twitter’s Promoted Products in an effort to grow awareness and follower counts.
First spotted by Barry Schwartz of Marketing Land, the link takes individuals to ads.twitter.com, which is still private for those that haven’t been invited. Although Twitter has confirmed the rollout, it’s still unclear how this will work for regular members, or whether it will be available for people who don’t already have large followings.
We don’t expect this to directly affect businesses already taking advantage of Twitter’s advertising products, but it could impact the quality of tweets appearing in timelines. Or worse, it could overwhelm and turn individuals off of advertising. On a more positive note, this could be a great opportunity for anyone with a personal brand that might not have been able to take advantage of Promoted Products previously.
For now, Twitter will continue testing different ways to roll out this feature. We’ll keep you updated as more details are released.
