Upcoming Movie Trailer Debuts in a Google+ Hangout
Social underdog Google+ is getting the Hollywood treatment this month.
Marking a first for the movie industry, the trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln will debut in a Google+ Hangout on September 13th.
Although Google+ isn’t a stranger to film promotion — it also hosted Hangouts for movies like The Muppets and The Avengers — this is the first time a trailer premiere has been integrated.
The trailer will accompany a live chat about the film with director Steven Spielberg and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, which will also be aired live in Times Square. Both the Hangout and the trailer will be available to fans on YouTube moments after the live broadcast.
Google is creating buzz around the event by requiring fans that wish to participate in the chat to submit a YouTube video with the hashtag #LincolnHangout. Disney added that fans should explain their interest in the movie as well as what questions they’d like to ask Spielberg and Gordon-Levitt.
While we’ve seen examples of how musicians and sports teams are using Google+, the platform hasn’t hit critical mass among businesses. If successful, it could give Google+ a credibility boost as well as convince other industries to invest more resources in the service.
