Google+ Introduces Business-Focused Features for Apps Users
If you’re a Google Apps customer, then you’re already using products like Docs and Gmail on a regular basis. The company is now encouraging you to use Google+ for things like video chatting and social networking.
The most important feature is Restricted Posts, which are private to your organization and can’t be re-shared with anyone externally. When enabled, a building icon will be displayed on the right side of the box.
You can also choose to allow external sharing; however, if you restrict sharing by default, you’ll see a warning whenever you select this option. Admins can set up company-wide sharing controls through the new Administrative Controls.
Currently, Google+ Hangouts integrate with Docs and Gmail. Moving forward, you will also be able to join a video chat directly from within Calendar, whether it be a calendar entry or the original invite.
According to Google, this is just the beginning. “During this preview period, organizations that have gone Google will be able to use the business features of Google+ for free through the end of 2013 while we continue to add more features and administrative controls designed for organizations.”
