Regarding not being able to access the green button to swap to timeline... I tried everything.  One went through in this household when Facebook made an invitation when the person logged on.  But my  page (I've only just signed up in the past two months) just won't.  I've looked into it in detail and it seems I haven't provided a mobile number (I just don't want facebook to have it).  The other household person hasn't either, but it seems they were just lucky to have received the invite at the time of the 'official swapover'.

So if you want timeline, you haven't put in your phone number and you don't mind giving it, then that's probably the answer.  Since I refuse to give my number, it will be interesting to see whether I just stay in the old format forever, or just disappear!

The "get timeline" button isn't there

JimKeighley 5 pts

Hi, is there any updates on the issue with people not seeing the "get it now" button?? I have been scouring the net for how to make the switch to Timeline and nothing seems to be working.

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

JimKeighley Hi Jim, unfortunately I don't have much to update you with. I've read some forum posts from people with the same issue. Some said after trying another browser the button appeared, others with newer Facebook accounts said the button appeared after several weeks. I'll keep digging around, but it looks like Facebook isn't responding to users' requests about this.

How long does it take for timeline to be available once you have set up a new account?  When we got to the Introducing Timeline page there is no Get it Now button.  We thought it would automatically have timeline but it didn't and we have no way to get it.

how can i get my timeline back ? :(

whhhhhhhy ..!! help

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

TammyxDexBonita Hi Tammy. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble switching over. Did you already visit the Introducing Timeline page? Last week Facebook announced that it'd be rolling out the ability to everyone over the next few weeks. If you're not seeing the prompt, hang tight, it's on its way! As for your profile picture, you should be able to change the permissions on it underneath Privacy Settings.

I went to the timeline page on Facebook but there isn't a get it now button anywhere. how do I switch?

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

Lori2012 Great question, Lori. It looks like Facebook hasn't rolled the feature out to its entire user base just yet. Aside from the developer loophole, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to update unless you see the prompt. I've tried to find a work-around, but haven't found a solution yet.

I've been trying to enable the timeline but once I click the button is just has a pop up box that says Loading. It won't move any further than that. :(

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

Blargh. I didn't realize so many people were having trouble installing Timeline. I've tried to find a solution, but nothing has turned up yet. The best thing I can advise is to watch Facebook's Help Center. I expect that the feature will be rolled out to the entire user base soon.

jennifer when I click on this link there is absolutely nowhere on this screen that has 'get it now'. Really strange.

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

AmandaGibbStout That's very strange. I would think that by now all servers have access to it. I'll poke around a bit to see if I can find a solution.

AmandaGibbStout 7 pts

So it is not on my profile to switch; when I go to the link above there is absolutely NOWHERE to GET THE TIMELINE...getting pretty frustrated about it as I can't find any help with this......

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

AmandaGibbStout Hi Amanda. I've heard a few people complain about not being able to switch. Have you visited Facebook's "Introducing Timeline" page (http://www.facebook.com/about/timeline)? You should be able to click "Get It Now." Let us know if you're still running into problems.

jennifer beeseAmandaGibbStout There is still no "Get It Now" button on this link....any other suggestions?

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

Lisa207AmandaGibbStout I wish I had an easy fix for you. Facebook did announce that it was on the final leg of its Timeline roll-out. You should be seeing a prompt soon!

I think a lot of people arent actually too keen to switch to Timeline, for those that have been forced to switch or have switched and now regret it, i wrote a comprehensive guide on how to deactivate Facebook Timeline pages, check it out here: http://www.fbpurity.com/disable-facebook-timeline.htm

Barbra Bio Writer 8 pts

thanks for the instructions. I've switched and I like it. This is a major, major innovation on Facebook's part.

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

Barbra Bio Writer Thanks for commenting, Barbra. Now that a few weeks have passed, are you still enjoying Timeline?

Barbra Bio Writer 8 pts

jennifer beese Well, it takes a bit of getting used to, but generally speaking I do still like it. It's a more attractive interface that the old FB.

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

Barbra Bio Writer Major changes definitely take a while to get used to. Hopefully Facebook lets this sink in a while before the next redesign!

OK, I think the first Timeline-enabled profile page I looked at was set up oddly. Or, perhaps that person didn't have any recent status updates. I've looked at several others and the chronological status update string is pretty intuitive. Still think it wastes screen space and requires too much scrolling — might not be so bad (annoying?) on a really good internet connection.

MwKipara 9 pts

I assume that once you've made the switch to the Timeline, there's no going back. Is that correct?

I won't pass judgement, yet, as I may grow to like it. But, first impressions are that everything is way too big — waste of screen space and too much scrolling. I think I would like to compact everything. I suppose it's designed for people with extremely high visual preferences versus content preferences (I'm the latter). And, it's not intuitive to see what someone's current status is.

FBPurity 7 pts

MwKipara it is possible to revert all timeline pages to the old style profile pages, ive written a neat tutorial on how to do it here: http://www.fbpurity.com/disable-facebook-timeline.htm

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

MwKipara From what we've read Timeline is here to stay – at least for now. Once activated, it doesn't seem like there's a way to revert back to the old profiles. There were a couple tricks – such as deactivating and reactivating your account, or closing your developer account – but those don't seem to work anymore. We hope it grows on you and thanks for reading!

MwKipara 9 pts

jennifer beeseMwKipara It actually didn't take long at all for me to like the Timeline pretty well. I still would have designed it to use screen space more efficiently and require less scrolling, but that's minor. One thing that has stumped me — I posted a new photo album and then hid it on my Timeline thinking that would keep the album from posting to the Newsfeed until I did some editing and then unhid it. Well, it posted to the Newsfeed anyway and now I can't find any way to unhide the album. It's not a big deal but I am curious — surely if I can hide something I can unhide it but I don't know where to find that option.

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

MwKipara Facebook doesn't really make it clear. I think hiding something from your Timeline just means that if someone visits your profile that they won't see it, but it still appears in News Feeds. It seems that a few others are looking for a solution as well (http://www.facebook.com/help/community/question/?id=1883383). I would think that there had to be some type of settings within your Albums. Have you tried editing to see if there are viewing permissions?

MwKipara 9 pts

jennifer beese The person who originally asked the question on Facebook's Help page is me. I have tried the Album settings and permissions seem to only be who sees items in the Newsfeed. I tried changing the album from "Friends of Friends" to "Public" and that made no difference.

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

MwKipara Ha! My bad. I'll certainly ask around to see if anyone has found a solution for this. It's very strange.

jennifer beeseMwKipara I also am having the same problem. I have switched another FB account easily, but when I go to the page where the supposed link, "get it now" is, the link is nowhere to be seen. I contacted Timeline help and received an email that they got my email, but they have not responded... and I still cannot access timeline. Frustrating.

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

MwKipara I've asked around, but haven't been able to find a solution. Just to clarify, you are using Facebook as an individual and not as a Page, correct?

SalmanAhmad 6 pts

I want to disable the timeline how I can do that??

jennifer beese 40 pts moderator

SalmanAhmad Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Timeline is here to stay. There might be some plugins or browser extensions that can help revert you back to the old profile, but I'm not sure how safe those are.

Just so that there is no confusion...

I have spent a LOT of very frustrating time with this, and have then looked thoroughly around on the internet, and found some interesting information. Facebook is EXTREMELY low down in my estimation now.

I have a (many months old) facebook account. Some of my friends' facebook accounts are many years old. I was able to see the green "Get it Now" button at the bottom-right of the standard "Introduction to Timeline" web-page, but, when I set-up a new facebook account for a another friend, I did not get the green "Get it Now" button, and was thus unable to implement timeline on that new facebook account.

Facebook, VERY STUPIDLY, don't tell you this, but timelines are not available for new facebook accounts (actually, profiles) until those accounts are at-least 30 days old. So, the answer is to wait around for 30 days, then revisit your account, and then you should get the green "Get it Now" button.
