Amazon Expands Its Daily Deals Service, Amazon Local

After quietly launching in Los Angeles, Seattle, Boise and Palm Beach, Florida last month, Amazon has just expanded its daily deals service, Amazon Local, into Chicago as well.

Using LivingSocial‘s workforce to get quickly off the ground, Amazon Local is offering customers savings of “50% or more every day.” Amazon invested heavily into LivingSocial last year and now we see why.

Though Amazon Local is yet another daily deals service to enter the already crowded market, it has one very strong advantage. Groupon, LivingSocial and other popular daily deals services have to spend a great deal of money to attract users, but Amazon already has a database of customers to launch with.

As Amazon continues to roll out its new service, only time will tell if consumers can embrace one more daily deal offer vying for their attention.

Online retailer Amazon.com is trying to become a bigger player in the mushrooming market for online deals with the launch of a website that offers large discounts on local goods and services.

Good article, but I think it's lame that all your links, which I think will link me to different sites as the anchor text implies, only take me to different tags on the sproutsocial blog. Maybe good for SEO, but sucks for readers.

Thanks for the feedback James. It's good for SEO, sure, but we also maintain landing pages and channels on different subjects, which I hope provides some context to readers. If there's a resource that we don't have but that's helpful and pertinent to the subject at hand, we definitely link out, but if we already have a stable of resources here we link back to our stuff. Seems easier all around to me. We'd like our tag pages to be resources that are helpful; if you have any ideas about how to improve them, let me know!
