Thanks for the info! I was trying to figure out the difference between RT and native RT! :)@alexCpelzer

Thanks for the info. Wasn't aware there are/were different styles of RT! @leprosytalk

I prefer the 'traditional' style of re-tweets as it encourages more sharing. thanks @paromitag

The main advantages to new style retweeting is that it doesn't shorten the tweet, and it allows any user to easily track how many tweeters have retweeted your tweet, making it my favorite. Admittedly, though, it can be confusing when a strange avatar shows up on your timeline. Some applications, like TweetDeck, alleviate this problem by displaying the retweeter's avatar next to the main avatar.

Very helpful post - sharing it w/others as a newbie resource.

I like to use a mix of traditional and new RTs, depending on whether I have a comment to add and how willing I am to promote the original Tweep.

@journeyscript

Olivia, If I'm in a hurry and the original tweet is succinct, I'll use the new style RT too. But that represents maybe 5% of my RTs.

Thanks for your comment!

Thank you Janis @lacouvee for this article. I don't have a preferred style of retweeting - I didn't know there were retweet style options! ...still learning Twitter, and still super thankful for Sprout Social! Thanks also to @donpower for (re?) tweeting the link to this... ;)

@lydster65

Hi Lydia! Yes, there are different styles of ReTweets. Originally, Twitter mandated that the RT had to be the very first characters of your tweet in order for it to 'count' as a ReTweet.

They are more flexible now and an RT inserted anywhere in the tweet now counts as a genuine ReTweet (actual RTs are by a number of different applications as one way to measure your Twitter influence!).

I actually prefer to put my RT at the end because it make sthe original message easier to understand, for example:

THIS>"Yelp Like Nobody's Watching http://bit.ly/eJhl0I RT @donpower"

NOT THIS> as opposed to THIS: "RT @donpower http://bit.ly/eJhl0I Yelp Like Nobody's Watching"

See the difference? But as longf as you're RTing useful content, your followers will thank you for it!

Cheers and thanks for being part of the Sprout Social: Insights community, Lydia!
