Thanks for your comment Nuprinz. I think fast burnout is a hazard of gimmicky promotion. Companies that take a longer term view will hopefully still be in the game long after their flash in the pan competitors.

Cheers!

One thjing is for certain, reviews do improve your rank within Google Places. Considering Google Places now takes up most of the first page of Google Search results, it makes good sense to do all you can to rank well. In the past we've emailed patients (we're a chiropractic clinic) with a link asking them for reviews. You can get the link from the right hand side of the blue bar on the top of your Google Places listing. We got 27 reviews and went to the top of the pile. Do NOT fake reviews. Google can will discover the reviews coming from the same IP address and penalise you.

I've also heard some SEO people say they think nofollows still count in your google rank. Anybody else hear this. There's still lots of places out there to get do follow backlinks, you just have to look.

Thanks Dr. J

I have seen your SERP rise based on hard work and dilligent effort in asking your clients for reviews. It's a great strategy and clearly one that's worked well for you.

Thanks for your comment!

There are thousands of social bookmarking sites (digg, yelp, reddit are just more popular). With pligg, scuttle and phpdug frameworks its easy to set up a bookmarking site for anyone. Many of these do have DOFOLLOW enabled.

Having said that, in order for google to give juice to your link, the site DOESN’T have to be dofollow.

Google has been working diligently on improving their up-to-dateness, which forced them to consider something I call Social Rank. We know this from public patent records google has submitted.

No, we don’t know how much weight google assigns to Social Rank, but we know that they do.

I have an amazing interview coming out on Wednesday on my blog about this. I probe Dan Cristo’s brain for all this info. Dan is a long time SEO guy and really knows his stuff and I opened him up like a can of tune lol

Dan and I talk more about Social Rank and up-to-dateness factors…hope you find it useful ☺

Hey Dino;

I have seen 'social rank' in action so often in searche results from Google that I'm not sure why this is still speculation.

Would love to her more about it though. Feel free to reply to this comment here and drop a link to your post where you explain 'Social Rank' more fully.

Cheers!
